Frank J. Broccolo

Frank Broccolo graduated from Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California at Berkeley in 2000, where he also received his bachelor’s degree. Mr. Broccolo started his career at Sidley Austin LLP in Los Angeles, and was a partner in its Complex Commercial Litigation Group for five years. Over the course of his career, Mr. Broccolo has litigated a wide-range of commercial matters involving a variety of businesses, particularly in the areas of real estate, idea theft, defamation, privacy rights and publicity matters. Examples of these engagements include:

  • Part of a trial team that obtained an award in an international arbitration concerning the World Market Center in Las Vegas, which the Los Angeles and San Francisco Daily Journal named as one of California’s “Top Plaintiff Verdicts of 2009.”
  • Represented a plaintiff that prevailed after a three-week arbitration hearing, addressing the merits of a real estate dispute involving in excess of $50 million.
  • In a lawsuit alleging claims for trade secret misappropriation and other torts, after prevailing on successive demurrers, obtained the dismissal of such claims and an award of attorneys’ fees against the opposing party.
  • Represented a defendant that prevailed against claims for copyright infringement, trade secret misappropriation, and other torts, and obtained an award of approximately $2,000,000 in attorneys’ fees against the opposing party, which award was upheld on appeal in May 2013.
  • In 2014, represented a municipality that defeated federal and state lawsuits challenging its installation of a monument on public land.
  • In 2014, invalidated a competing creditor’s mechanic’s lien valued in excess of $5 million on a motion for summary judgment.
  • Obtained the dismissal of numerous idea theft, invasion of privacy, and other tort claims alleged against clients in state and federal courts, after filing and prevailing on special motions to strike and other dispositive motions.

In 2014, Mr. Broccolo was named one of the “Best LGBT Attorneys Under 40” by the National LGBT Bar Association. Mr. Broccolo is presently a member of the Executive Committee of the ACLU of Southern California Foundation Board and is the Chairman of its Philanthropy Committee.
