Mr. Gilchrest began his career practicing at the international law firm of Paul,
Hastings, Janofsky & Walker. While at Paul Hastings, Mr. Gilchrest litigated
matters involving disputes over corporate governance of closely held and Fortune 100 companies and charges of securities and antitrust law violations.
Eager to try lawsuits, Mr. Gilchrest joined the international law firm of Jones,
Day, Reavis & Pogue. While at Jones Day, Mr. Gilchrest litigated a wide range
of business disputes, including disputes involving all aspects of real property (from commercial landlord-tenant disputes to foreclosures, quiet title and CEQA
and RICRA actions), debtor-creditor rights, copyright and trademark infringement,
product liability, employment law, corporate governance, securities laws and antitrust
laws. He also was co-trial counsel on a number of jury trials (ranging from 10 to
30 days) and bench trials.
To enhance his trial experience further, Mr. Gilchrest participated
in the Trial Attorney Program while at Jones Day. The Trial Attorney Program is
co-sponsored by the LA City Attorney and District Attorney offices and offers lawyers
to hone their ability to try jury trials. While in TAP, Mr. Gilchrest successfully
prosecuted or negotiated plea bargains in six criminal matters assigned to him.
Mr. Gilchrest also has committed a substantial amount of time
to pro bono matters. While at Jones Day, the Legal Aid Society of Los Angeles and
the Los Angeles County Bar Associated honored Mr. Gilchrest for his pro bono service
on behalf of lower income members of the Los Angeles community.
Mr. Gilchrest next joined Van Etten Suzumoto & Becket
(a Pillsbury, Madison & Sutro spinoff), where he continued to practice in the
area of general business litigation and have an active trial practice.
